2012 Military Pay

June 16, 2011, the Senate Committee on Armed Services, unanimously authorized a 1.6 percent across-the-board pay raise for 2012 for all members of the uniformed services, consistent with the President Obama’s request. The bill now moves to the full Senate for consideration.

May 26 of this year, the full House of Representatives passed the 2012 defense budget. The budget includes a 1.6% increase in military pay. The bill must now be reconciled with the Senate’s version before it can be sent to the President for his signature.

On May 12, 2011, The House Armed Services Committee, with a vote of 60-1, approved the 1.6% military pay raise as part of the 2012 defense budget. The 2012 defense bill will now move on to the full House for the next step in the legislative process.

February 14, 2011, President Obama proposed a minimum of a 1.6% military pay raise in his “Budget of the United States Government, Fiscal Year 2012.” His proposal is based on the on the wage and salary series for private industry workers as indicated in the Employment Cost Index that was released on the last business day in October 2010. Some in congress are rumbling about a freeze of military pay to the 2011 levels; doing so means that some of the ground that was retaken over the last 10 years to close the pay gap will be lost. The pay scales below reflect the 1.6% raise.

The United State’s military pay and allowances are distributed on the 1st and 15th day of the month. If the 1st or 15th fall on a weekend or national holiday, payment will be made the working day prior. The pay scales below are proposals for active and reserve components of the Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Guard. The pay rates are monthly amounts rounded to the nearest U.S. dollar.
